People to give Costa plan last rites
Tuesday 23 September 2008
Greens NSW MP John Kaye has called on Nathan Rees to reject Michael Costa's 'Plan B' to sell off the state's retail electricity sector in the face of continued overwhelming community opposition.
A mock funeral for privatisation will be held outside the state parliament at 12.30pm.
Dr Kaye said: "Nathan Rees is in no position to push through his version of privatisation by selling off electricity retailers.
"Michael Costa ruled out selling off any part of the state's electricity system without it going to a vote of parliament first.
"Nathan Rees must stand by that commitment.
"Electricity privatisation has been rejected by the experts, the Labor Party and the people of NSW.
"Now is the time for Nathan Rees to protect NSW households and the environment and declare electricity privatisation dead and buried.
"The Greens will be moving to re-introduce our No Mandate, No Privatisation Bill to ensure that parliament has the final say on the future of the state's electricity retailers," Dr Kaye.
