Costa’s Tillegra employment figures rubbery on Tillegra job numbers
Wednesday 01 April 2009
NSW Water Minister Phillip Costa has badly contradicted himself on the number of jobs that would be created the controversial Tillegra Dam, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
On 5 March 2009, Minister Costa replied to a question without notice in the NSW Legsilative Assembly saying
Dr Kaye said: “Like the budget for the Tillegra dam, Minister Costa’s job creation figures for the project continue to change.
“Unlike the cost of the dam, the latest figures from Minister Costa’s department show a decrease from his previous wild statements.
“Minister Costa told parliament in early March that ‘thousands’ of jobs would be created as a result of Tillegra. The Minister’s own Department of State and Regional Development issued a statement on Monday March 30 saying 200 jobs would be created.
“Previous media reports have claimed a figure of 300 jobs would be created.
“The reality is that no study on the number of jobs has been made public.
“The Minister is making it up as he goes along, which is typical of this entire project
“What we do know is that once built the dam will provide six jobs for Dungog, while drowning the livelihoods of hundreds in the productive local agriculture sector jobs under the waters of the expensive and unnecessary Tillegra Dam,” Dr Kaye said.
