TransGrid’s North Coast Line: Vandalism without reason
State-owned transmission company TransGrid wants to spend $227 million to build a massive 330 kV power line from Bonshaw on the Queensland border to Lismore.
The Power line is not needed and if built would:
- increase household electricity bills to pay for unnecessary infrastructure,
- destroy North Coast jobs and business opportunities in renewable energy and demand management,
- increase the carbon footprint of North Coast residents by making them more dependent on coal-fired electricity from Queensland, and
- sever an important green corridor from Queensland into northern NSW
The local community has pulled together to fight against the development. You can see their website here: http://www.notransgrid.org/
