Renewable Energy
Renewable energy's potential is vast, far greater than that of nuclear power or climate changing coal.
With
current renewables technology, we can generate almost six times today's
global energy demand (source: International Solar Energy Society). Many
countries, like the UK, China, and Egypt, have enough wind power to
meet their energy needs many times over. As tidal, wave, solar and
bio-mass technologies develop, a diverse renewable energy industry will
emerge.
Renewable energy is reliable, clean and limitless power
generated by natural forces and processes such as sunshine, wind,
flowing water (hydro) and organic materials (bioenergy).
With
vast open space and abundant sunshine, Australia has the potential to
harness more renewable energy than almost any other country in the
world. Enough sunlight falls on Australia each hour to supply all our
power needs for a whole year, if we could capture it all!
The Greens NSW are campaigning for a NSW Mandatory Renewable Energy Target of 20% by 2012 and 50% by 2020.

Opinion Piece: Clean energy and jobs on the line in the Hunter
Australia’s political leaders are squandering the opportunity to reduce the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions and create hundreds of thousands of new jobs. The last two and a half years have been wasted on a debate between an Opposition dominated by climate change deniers and a Government intent on rewarding big polluters and throwing a pale green cloak over a fatally flawed business-as-usual plan.
Renewable energy can ease soaring power bills
A shift to renewable energy could take the pressure of households facing a surge in power prices, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
NSW Energy Minister Robertson’s faith in the free market misplaced
NSW Energy Minister John Robertson's faith in the free market to deliver cash payments for households producing solar power is misplaced, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
Solar scheme will cost NSW households just eight cents a day
The NSW solar feed in tariff scheme will have a miniscule impact on household power bills compared to the Keneally government's plans to lumber the state with coal powered wires and poles for decades to come, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
Backing renewables will bring jobs boom to Illawarra
The Green Jobs Illawarra Action Plan released this week highlights the rich future available to regions that embrace the battle against climate change, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
Seven years too short to kick start a solar revolution in NSW
Greens MP John Kaye warned that the proposed seven year life of Nathan Rees' solar feed in tariff scheme would be too short to create on-going jobs and substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Integral's solar school fiasco sends wrong message
Energy Minister Ian Macdonald should move quickly to ensure that solar panels installed on NSW schools are connected to the grid, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
Wind energy revolution will still be waiting for Rees govt
The Greens welcomed the Rees government's recognition that wind energy generation in NSW is falling behind other states but the twenty two month holiday from development fees will not be long enough to solve the problem, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
