Hurlstone Agricultural High School Sell Off
Hurlstone Agricultural High School is a co-educational agricultural high school in southwest Sydney that caters for boarding and local day students. As part of the NSW Government's November 2008 Mini-Budget, the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) announced its intention to sell 140 hectares of the 160 hectare Hurlstone Agriculture High School.
The land is to be
sold as ‘surplus land’ to developers for housing as a revenue
raising activity. For the recent mini-budget[1]
140ha of school property has been designated as ‘surplus to future educational
purposes’ and is to be sold.
In response to this decision current and former
students, educators, the agriculture industry, local residents and other
stakeholders have voiced their opposition to the proposal and are calling on
the government to reverse the decision.
