Private School Funding: Time to Fix the Inequity

Private School TheatreJohn Kaye is campaigning hard to restore some sense to the debate about funding of private schools. The Greens believe that the current system of public funding for private schools regardless of their wealth needs radical change if we are to avoid creating a two-tier education system.

In particular, The Greens NSW will work towards ending all public funding of the wealthiest private schools. Public funds that are given to these schools under current arrangements should be committed instead to equity programs within the public school system.

Furthermore, private schools and private school systems that receive public funding should be subject to the same level of public accountability and scrutiny that applies to public schools or forego all public funding.
